The Emmys: Did Modern Family deserve to sweep the Comedy category?
Modern Family began airing in September 2009 and critics immediately praised the show. Viewers found it funny, sharp, versatile and thought-provoking. The show does what the title says; a father and his adult children, who have their own familys, lead their lives and interact. There's a gay couple, a May-December marriage, adoption and various ethnicities represented on the show. I haven't seen Modern Family but after reading up on it I'll have to check it out. To those of you familiar with the show: do you think it deserved the five Emmys it earned Sunday night?
At last year's Emmys, after its first season, Modern Family received nominations in five categories, including Best Supporting nominations for five of its actors. Eric Stonestreet, who plays Cameron, won Best Supporting Actor, and the series won Best Writing and Best Comedy Series. So it wasn't a surprise when the 2011 Emmys nominations included Modern Family as a contender in five categories, with nods toward ten writers, directors or actors. In the Best Supporting Actor category, four of the six nominations went to Modern Family cast members; Ty Burrell, who plays Phil, won the Emmy.
