One of the suspects of fuel subsidy fraud, Oluwaseun Ogunbambo, who was earlier denied bail due to his history of unresolved criminal allegations and multiplicity of identity, on Monday regained his freedom before another judge of a Lagos High Court. This came after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) filed separate charges of banking fraud against him. The accused allegedly obtained separate loans of N230 million and N430 million from Stanbic IBTC Plc in 2010 with forged documents. Justice Adeniyi Onigbanjo had on August 1 denied Mr Ogunbambo bail after he was arraigned along with Habila Theck and their firm, Fargo Energy Limited, on six counts of fraudulently collecting N976.6m from the Federal Government purportedly as payment for subsidy on importation of petrol. While Mr Theck was granted bail, Mr Ogunbambo’s bail application was refused. The accused however was on August 19, released on bail by Justice Lateefat Folami, a vacation judge, who the accused turned to during the original judges’ annual vacation. Mr Ogunbambo had asked Justice Folami for bail on the grounds of health. The judge had granted the bail despite admitting that his grounds of ill health were “unmeritorious”. Justice Onigbanjo had ordered that Mr Ogumbambo be remanded in Ikoyi Prisons, saying “his multiple identities and his propensity to get multiple passports each time one was seized,” were weighty enough to warrant the denial of the bail. I attended the consultation event regarding Clean Power Properties Ltd with an open mind and a keen interest as I live within very close proximity to the proposed site.
One residnet expresses his concerns about proposals for a Clean Energy Plant in Forres On reading your headline in the August 8 edition of the ‘Gazette’ I am amazed that it reads: “We’ve come clean on green energy plan!” I am sorry to say that this company did very little to ensure that they did just that, indeed they fell well short of clear answers. They fumbled and lied and could not give a decent answer to any of my own questions; this directly from their representative that was quoted in your paper. Lets strip it down a bit. On noticing that there was obvious positive spin everywhere, my neighbour asked what the risks were; “None” was the answer. Pressed by me that there surely are dangers and that every company has to have risk assessments to identify and mitigate them the answer was that yes they did have them but there’s “nothing to worry about”. How ridiculous is that? Aside from normal risk assessments, surely there must also be forthcoming an environmental impact assessment. Coal scam: Congress rejects bribery charge, dares BJP to make public proof

Rejecting BJP's charge that bribes were paid to it in coal blocks allocation, Congress on Monday dared it to make public any proof it had and asked the opposition party to "look within" as its former president had been jailed for graft.
Stung by the Opposition's continued tirade against Government on coal block allocation, the ruling party also questioned the legal mandate of the CAG to prepare such reports and accused BJP of making "very crude attempts" to gain "very cheap popularity". Hitting out at BJP leader Sushma Swaraj's remarks that Congress has got a "fat sum" from coal block allocation, Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari said it could be "BJP's culture" and pointed to the case former BJP President Bangaru Laxman, who was convicted of accepting bribe from a fictitious arms dealer to facilitate a defence deal. Nigeria: Fuel Subsidy - Massive Fraud, Messy Fight

ANALYSIS
Finance Minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala's resolve to isolate fraudulent oil marketers in payment of fuel subsidy, based on a report of an investigation panel, had a backlash last week. Though NUPENG has returned to work, there are fears that difficult times lay ahead. A typical scenario of how pockets government funds were pumped into the tanks of oil marketers in the name of subsidy goes thus: "Conoil imported 19.820 million litres of PMS (petrol) with Form M No.1078673 and mother vessel bill of lading dated 31/08/2011 for which N1,532,684,020.31 was paid subsidy. This payment was made ahead of external auditors' verification in line with the PPPRA procedure; however external auditors did not subsequently verify the claim. Discussion with PPPRA showed this payment was yet to be verified by the external auditors due to their error in sending the verification request to Akintola Williams Delloite instead of Adekanola & Co who witnessed the vessel discharge. Akintola Williams Delloite returned the request unsigned and before they could be sent to Adekanola for their signature, both firms had been disengaged from further participation in the subsidy payment process. "Differences were noted between the observed volume of litres in the shore tank certificates and the volume in litres used to calculate the subsidies claimed. This is in violation of the requirement of the PSF guidelines that the volume of products for which s... Blog / Clean Energy plant raises questions

How ridiculous is that? Aside from normal risk assessments, surely there must also be forthcoming an environmental impact assessment. I also heard flooding concerns mentioned. They noted that work would not go ahead until the River Findhorn Flood Alleviation works were completed. This does not really account for a tidal flood does it? "BJP seems to be remembering old traditions. 24 out of 39 coal blocks allocated between 1998 to 2004 (NDA regime) were given to private companies. Did this happen in lieu of some political donation. This 'mota maal' and 'chhota mal' (fat sum or small sum) can be in BJP's culture. "That is not Congress culture. One of their former President was sentenced to jail term for such 'chhota maal' (small sum). One should look within first before casting aspersions on others," Tewari s... HOBBS, N.M. – Mitt Romney highlighted his plans to expand domestic drilling while campaigning in New Mexico on Thursday, promising to help America move toward energy independence by 2020.
“This is not some pie in the sky kind of thing. This is a real, achievable objective,” he said, gesturing toward a chart beside him that wobbled in the wind in the truck yard where he spoke. Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai

Warning to readers: This is a meta-review targeted mostly at YOU! Especially those who HAVE watched a few episodes and DID like it a lot. In case you haven’t seen a single episode, just pretend this anime is described by others as WOAH AWESOME and now you are reading a second opinion. A negative one that is. Do not view this text as an attack to your integrity or something because the show itself is an attack to your common sense and feelings and I am just counterattacking it by using the same method.
Is KyuuCON a Scam?

After posting the press release from KyuuCon yesterday, it's been brought to our attention by various members of UK anime fandom that there is something fishy about KyuuCON. Firstly it appears that the venue mentioned the Plymouth Pavillions has not heard of KyuuCON or the organisers in question. The second major alarm bell is where the payments are going, into a personal bank account and not a building society account/non-profit account in the conventions name.
What's also interesting is their sudden change of heart, and the way they've just moved everything back a year. Plus this thread brought to our attention at the AyaCon Forum. At this current moment in time, based on what we have heard, we believe that KyuuCON is either very poorly organised or a cash grabbing scam, either way, we suggest you avoid KyuuCON for now. Full Story Normally when people run anime conventions they've had previous experience in fandom, running anime clubs or sci-fi/fantasy clubs and similar events. At the very least people who want to run a convention would have experience as a gopher at a convention to see what is involved. The people running KyuuCON don't seem to have any of this, yet they appear to be attempting to run an anime convnetion larger than anything else in the UK before. So for your general amusement we suggest you visit KyuuCON's forum and read this thread and at least one LiveJournal Posting. All current evidence points to another es... « previous next » |
