BP America, Inc. announced today it will donate $1 million to support disaster relief efforts in Louisiana and Mississippi following Hurricane Isaac.

The donation will be made to the American Red Cross and The Salvation Army and divided equally between the two hardest-hit states.

“This assistance cannot fix all that has been broken by this natural disaster, but we hope it can help some of those in need today and contribute to a sustained recovery effort in the months ahead,” said Crystal E. Ashby, Executive Vice President of Government and Public Affairs for BP America.

The storm forced BP to evacuate workers from offshore platforms and drilling rigs in the Gulf of Mexico, as well as from onshore facilities in south Louisiana and Mississippi, where hundreds of BP employees live.

Separate from this donation, BP is also providing assistance to our employees and their families in the region.

BP Target Neutral is a non-profit initiative that gives drivers a simple, practical way to make their own, personal contribution to reducing, replacing and neutralising‚ the CO2 emissions their driving produces
ABOUT BP TARGET NEUTRAL
Launched in August 2006, this initiative is another example of BP’s long-term strategy of finding new and better ways to minimise the carbon impact of road transport fuels on the environment and participate in addressing climate change issues.

BP Target Neutral is currently available to motorists in 6 countries across Europe and supports low carbon development projects in a further 10 countries.
JOIN THE BP TARGET NEUTRAL PROGRAMME
By logging on to www.bptargetneutral.com, drivers can calculate how much CO2 their car emits, calculate the impact changing driving behaviours can have on reducing that figure and also learn more about the offset projects supported. It is easy to participate, and involves a cash contribution to the programme to offset your driving emissions, which is usually around £20 per year, depending on your vehicle, mileage and fuel consumption.

HOW DOES BP USE TARGET NEUTRAL?
In each country where BP Target Neutral is available, BP is committed to offsetting a company owned fleet of vehicles. For example, in the UK BP offsets the driving emissions from its fuel tankers. In most countries BP will also make a cash contribution, for every litre of...

In 2011, we prepared to restart our drilling operations by implementing voluntary standards, enhancing the monitoring of our operations and by working closely with the regulator
Voluntary drilling standards
BP began implementing voluntary drilling standards for operations in the Gulf of Mexico in July 2011.

These voluntary drilling standards go beyond existing regulatory requirements in the US and strengthen oversight of contractors. They include:
Enhanced requirements for blowout preventers (BOP) to include both two blind shear rams and a casing shear ram on BP operated dynamically-positioned rigs.
Third-party verification for BOP testing and maintenance.
Enhanced review standards for cementing procedures and materials.
Enhanced offshore spill response capabilities.

We are implementing actions across BP and sharing lessons learned with the industry. We also continue to strengthen safety across BP.

By the end of 2011, BP had five deepwater drilling rigs in operation in the Gulf of Mexico.
Enhancing monitoring of drilling operations in the Gulf of Mexico
To enhance safety and teamwork in the Gulf of Mexico, BP has established the Collaborative Real-time Environment (CoRE) facility and expanded its Houston monitoring operations.

The state-of-the-art CoRE facility has a large data wall that can display real-time well information of drilling operations at any of our rigs operati...
