Move over ‘Song of Summer’—the ‘Song of Fall’ is here

Not that it’s any big surprise but, as of Sept. 6, it’s official: Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” is the song of the summer of 2012. Billboard tracked overall performances on the Hot 100 since June 9, and the infectious pop song landed at No. 1, ahead of Maroon 5′s “Payphone” and Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used to know.” And the summer-song charting doesn’t stop there. The definitive International Source also provides a top-1o summer songs list that goes back to 1985 and a top 30 songs about the season.

Part of the reason is that summer is tied to the history of rock music, says Larry Starr, a professor of music history at the University of Washington and co-author of the book American Popular Music: From Minstrelsy to MTV.

“It became much more of a thing with the advent of rock and roll and in the 1950s and the development of an enormous teen audience for record buying, for whom the summer was a vacation period,” he says. “With that target of the market, you get all sorts of records that are addressed to school kids.”

Starr points to the 1958 Eddie Cochran classic “Summertime Blues”—which happens to be the first song, chronologically, on that Billboard top-30 of the genre—as one of the earliest examples of such a song: music about summer vacation and how you want to s...

The mining company announce that its project to turn the Olympic Dam, the most valuable mineral deposit discovered in Australia, into the biggest ever open-pit mine has been delayed because of an increase in construction expenses. In addition, copper and uranium prices fell along with a strong domestic currency.

Our group is presently working alongside other associations to keep ghost towns, like the BlackHawk, Colorado, in the map; perhaps, even to try and make them a tourist spot.

In the wake of the Olympics fever, people across the world had a glimpse of sophisticated and high-end sports gear used by athletes in their games. Not surprisingly, they are using top-of-the-line gears and equipment to help them perform at their best.
And thanks to such an elite market, the advanced and highly-improved gears are made available to the public as consumer products. The technology used to develop gears in professional sports are now adopted by legit manufacturers in improved sports gear for amateurs, minus the fraud alert.
Sleek bicycles in word-class events are mainly from carbon fiber-reinforced plastic known for its durability, strength and lightness. This particular material is now available in high-performance bicycles — from rims, seat posts, handlebars, stems and cranks.
As for helmets, they are also becoming more advanced in terms of design and composition. Originally, helmets are made from leather, effective in protecting it from abrasions. Today, helmets being used in competitions are sometimes with built-in goggles and a wraparound design so that cyclists will have more convenience while having the optimum protection.
Likewise, consumer helmets for skateboarding, football and skiing are created with hard aerodynamic plastic shells that are highly resistant to puncture and have shock-absorbers. Separate visors or ultra-lightweight goggles made from polycarbonate plastic (like bulletproof glass) are also popular.

Black Hawkmines Reviews Plants vs Zoombies - smorti

PopCap has two important announcements this week: a sequel for its most popular game and staff layoffs.
It has announced the Plants vs. Zombies 2 launch will be on the spring of 2013 and promised new stuff in the game where you combat a horde of zombies by planting stuff.
“The sequel to Plants vs. Zombies is expected to launch by late spring 2013, and will include a bevy of new features, settings, and situations, designed to delight the franchise’s tens of millions of fans around the world,” according to PopCap.
However, it did not go into details about the platforms where it will be available. It was also unconfirmed if PopCap plans to make the sequel a separate game version or be an update to the current one.
PopCap, now a division of EA has released the following statements from two of its game characters regarding the sequel’s release:
“Spring is crullest curlie ungood time, and plantz grow dull roots. So, we are meating you for brainz at yore house. No worry to skedule schedlue plan… we’re freee anytime. We’ll find you.”
“There was a time we relished a bracing, hearty blend of zombies, in the morning. But first, a brisk shower and some strategic pruning are required. Tomorrow is near!”
On the other hand, PopCap offices are not in the mood to celebrate as it was announced on the same day that some of them are going to be laid off, which surprisingly includes the creator of their flagship game himself. ...

Rediff Blog - Black Hawk Mines Bulletin | Goa suspends all mining activities temporarily| Reuters

(Reuters) - Goa has temporarily suspended all mining activities, effective Tuesday, after an expert panel formed by the central government found “serious illegalities and irregularities” in mining operations, the state government said in a statement late on Monday.
Goa has not banned movement of iron ore already produced and stored at ports or in transit, the statement said. The state will form a verification and clearance committee to scrutinize operations before giving approval to resume mining, R K Verma, principal secretary at mines and geology, said in a statement.
Goa is India’s second-biggest iron ore producer. It produces more than 50 million tonnes of iron ore annually and exports almost all of it, making it the top exporter. Sesa Goa Ltd (SESA.NS), an Indian unit of London-listed Vedanta Resources Plc (VED.L), gets most of its iron ore from mines based in Goa.
The mining-suspension order came a week after the Supreme Court partially allowed mining in the neighbouring Karnataka following a ban of more than a year.
India used to be the world’s No. 3 iron ore exporter, with most of its product heading to China. But a clampdown on illegal mining in 2010, and New Delhi’s measures to keep output for domestic steel mills, slashed exports in half.
