Bradley Cooper, People’s Sexiest Man Alive in 2011, will take on one of acting’s most unflattering roles, in the Williamstown Theater Festival’s revival of “The Elephant Man.” Mr. Cooper will portray John Merrick, the deformed man at the center of the play, by Bernard Pomerance. Mr. Cooper, left, portrayed Merrick as part of his senior thesis at the Actors Studio Drama School, and appeared in the festival’s production of “The Understudy” by Theresa Rebeck in 2008. He will be joined onstage by Patricia Clarkson, who will play an actress that befriends Merrick during his hospital stay. Ms. Clarkson, also a veteran of the festival, appeared in “The Ride Down Mount Morgan” by Arthur Miller in 1996. Directed by Scott Ellis (“The Little Dog Laughed”), “The Elephant Man” is scheduled to run from July 25 to Aug. 5.
