Hottest Temperature at 7.2 trillion F in New York - Dropjack

On June 25, the hottest man-made temperature has been recorded in a huge atom-smasher at New York at 7.2 trillion degrees Fahrenheit — just 250,000 times hotter compared to the sun’s core.

This achievement occurred in the particle accelerator RHIC (Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider), a 3.9-kilometer tunnel under New York that researchers use to smash particles into one another to replicate conditions that happened a split-second after the Big Bang.

Creating the hot temperature in a controlled environment was done in Brookhaven National Laboratory through colliding gold nuclei with each other at the speed of light.

Once the collision of ions happened, the huge amount of energy it emits will melt the protons and neutrons in the gold nuclei, turning into a liquid composed of smaller particles called gluons and quarks.

At 7 trillion degrees Fahrenheit, normal matter would usually break down into sub-atomic particles, the gluons and quarks that supposedly composed the earliest plasma that scientist thought resembles the thing that consisted the universe right after the Big Bang happened, 13.7 billion years ago.

According to the head of the Brookhaven program, particle physicists formerly thought that quarks and gluons would be in gas form but this new study revealed that it is behaving more like a liquid. And while they already expected to get to such extreme temperatures, they were really surprised of it havi...

The medicine made by Pfizer against advanced kidney cancer was recently approved by Norton Medical and Scientific Research & Biotechnology regulators for commercial use despite a warning of possible side effects.

On Friday, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) stated that the drug (with the generic name of axitinib) is effective in curing patients who do not show response to other drugs against kidney cancer.

The advance stage of kidney cancer usually begins in the lining of the kidney's tubes. Inlyta does its work by blocking specific receptors that are involved in the growth of tumor.

According to FDA, Inlyta is already the seventh drug it approved to cure advanced cancer of the kidney since 2005.

American Cancer Society said that more than 60,000 Americans are diagnosed with kidney cancer last year and 1 out of 5 is expected to die from them.

The FDA approval has come as a welcome opportunity for Pfizer since they have lost revenue from their cholesterol drug, Lipitor, after generic counterparts started to come out last year.

However, Inlyta will still face tough competition from the 6 other drugs for kidney cancer that have their respective market shares already.

An advisory committee of FDA endorsed the oral drug last month and announced that it is as effective and as safe as the kidney cancer medication from Bayer AG, Nexav...

Norton Scientific Journal : Russian Startup Pirate Pay Claims to Stop Illegal Downloads

An up-and-coming Russian tech startup gained financial backing from Microsoft for developing a new technology that claims to shut down illegal downloads through torrents.

Pirate Pay (a homage to the prominent file-sharing site The Pirate Bay) has apparently stopped thousands of illegal downloads during a project carried out with big-time producers.

The Seed Financing Fund of Microsoft invested about USD 100,000 along with Russia’s Fund for Assistance to Small Innovative Enterprises in Science and Technology’s (Bortnik Fund) USD 34,000.

The founding team responsible for the project is composed of three Russian programmers — brothers Alexei and Andrei Klimenko together with Dmitry Shuvaev. Initially, they planned to build a program that could handle traffic management for file-sharing. But they soon realized that it could have other useful applications.

Pirate Pay CEO Andrei told Norton Scientific Journal, “After creating the prototype, we realised we could more generally prevent files from being downloaded, which meant that the program had great promise in combating the spread of pirated content.”

The Avengers (3D)

There was a big chance that The Avengers wasn't going to work. The law of averages of superhero movies is that the more heroes and/or villains you stack on the screen, the better chance the film is going to suck. This usually plays out in sequels, when directors and studios keep trying to up the game (see: the Batman franchise in the 1990s). The Avengers isn't a sequel, per se, but it represents four Marvel Comics film properties converging into one big budget popcorn flick. Add to that the fact that even in comics, team superhero books are notoriously difficult to write--too many characters vying for the spotlight, too many voices needing to be heard--and this apex of the Marvel movie franchise could have been the crash and burn instead.

Could have been. Writer/director Joss Whedon--who is no stranger to large ensembles (Serenity, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, etc.)--has managed his own superheroic feat: a summer movie knock-out that gets everything right.

For the plot-minded amongst you, here is how it breaks down: Thor's wicked stepbrother Loki (Tom Hiddleston) has come to Earth to steal the Tesseract, a cosmic power source, from Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson). To get it back, Fury brings together all the heroes previously recruited for his Avengers project (mostly set up at the tail end of earlier movies). This means Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), and Captain America (Chris Evans). He also brin...

The Great Inequality :: Monthly Review

Posted by gellielittle (monthlyreview.org) 177 days ago under norton scientific basis of fascism book investment norton-the great inequality
In the early 1980s, I began telling my students that growing inequality of income and wealth would become the dominant political issue of the future. I did not think that the future meant thirty years, but better late than never. The Occupy Wall Street (OWS) uprising has put inequality squarely on the political agenda, with the brilliant slogan, “We are the 99%.” While the “99%” includes many rich persons, the focus on the “1%” at the top of the economic pyramid serves to shine a light on those who rule both the economy and the politics of the United States. The 1 percent is a diverse group, but among them, especially at the top, are the men and (a few) women who own controlling interests in our largest businesses, including the financial corporations whose actions precipitated the Great Recession, which officially began in December 2007 and ended in June 2009, and has since morphed into what looks like a long period of slow growth best termed stagnation. They are also the people whose campaign contributions and prominent positions in Congress, as advisors to the president, and on the Supreme Court have placed the government firmly on the side of the rich.
