Spring Hill leaders have made the safety of the U.S. Highway 169 intersection with 199th Street a top priority.
A joint resolution was approved Feb. 9 by the city of Spring Hill, Spring Hill USD 230 and the Spring Hill Chamber of Commerce. The resolution states that the entities “jointly express support for measures that increase the safety of the intersection of U.S. Highway 169 and 199th Street through the efforts of the Kansas Department of Transportation, Board of County Commissioners, Johnson County, Public Works and the Kansas Legislature.”
The intersection has seen an increasing number of accidents, some resulting in fatalities. The intersection was a topic of a town hall meeting in Spring Hill on Jan. 19. Some ideas suggested have been rumble strips, flashing lights, or a warning signal tied to the light that would give drivers a heads up whether it was green or red ahead.
Spring Hill officials recently discussed their safety concerns during their annual trip to Topeka last month to meet with members of the Johnson County legislative delegation, and the topic also was discussed during Saturday’s legislative breakfast in Osawatomie. » Safety of intersection has become priority
